Drought hits fastest growing city

A lack of rain and increasing demand has left a huge swathe of China short of vital water supplies.

Perched on the banks of China’s Yangtze River, Chongqing is among the fastest growing cities in the world.

Its rapid growth has been held partly to blame for water shortages which have hit the entire region leaving some 6 million people thirsty.

Unseasonably low rainfall has also been a problem, with the region receiving little over half the usual precipitation for February.
