EA extends free flood warning service
The Environment Agency (EA) has unveiled plans to extend its free flood warning service to businesses and households at risk of groundwater flooding in Suffolk.
The service will now be extended to about 540 properties in Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Fornham St Martin, which will be able to sign up from February 29.
According to the EA, properties within the new flood alert area that have a cellar or basement may experience groundwater seepage or flooding, but with early warning can be better prepared for flooding.
EA flood incident management team member Chris Gooch, said: “We are constantly reviewing and looking for ways to improve our Flood Warning service to ensure that we can offer the best possible service to the public.”
