edie Environment & Energy Awards 2016: Winners announced at glittering ceremony

The National Motorcycle Museum was at full capacity for this year’s E&E Awards, which recognise and celebrate excellence in on-site energy, water and resource management. (Scroll down for full list of winners).

Seventy-five finalists – including multinational organisations, industry consultants and energy professionals – where whittled down by our esteemed panel of E&E Awards judges to 13 seperate winners. Categories were refreshed this year, to better reflect the dynamism of this ever-growing sector. 

Opening the ceremony, edie editor Luke Nicholls said: “Tonight, we are here to reward excellence in on-site energy, water and waste management. But these Awards are also about so much more than that.

“The E&E Awards are about recognising the success of the green economy, and celebrating all of you in this room who are really setting the standard when it comes to doing business better.

“The 75 shortlisted finalists have shifted from talking about sustainability and energy efficiency, to delivering it – at scale and at pace. The overall quality of entries up for consideration this year was truly remarkable.”

Big winners

Big winners on the night – which was hosted by comedian Andrew Ryan – included Dutch brewer Heineken UK, which took home the Environment Product Innovation Award; fashion retailer Primark, which earned the Environmental Initiative accolade; and commercial laundry cleaning firm Xeros, which scooped the gong for Onsite Water Efficiency.

Elsewhere, engineering and sustaiability experts Cundall won the Consultancy of the Year Award; National Trust won the Onsite Energy Generation Award; and The Crown Estate took home the Sustainable Building of the Year Award.

Meanwhile, the coveted Energy Manager of the Year Award – managed and judged by Awards partner the Energy Institute – went to Jude Hughes, the Environment and Energy Manager at The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC). Hughes was praised by the judges for succssfully engaging staff at all levels of her organisation.
