edie launches new explains guide on sub-metering
edie has today (24 August) launched a new Explains guide detailing everything the businesses need to know and consider when looking to install sub-metering solutions to assist with wider decarbonisation plans.
What is sub-metering? What are the different ways an organisation can use submetering? What are the business benefits of sub-metering? What is the cost of installing sub-meters? And, how can sub-metering support other aspects of a business’ net-zero journey? This new Explains guide from edie answers all of these questions and more.
This new edie Explains guide, created in assistance with EDF Energy, explores the role of sub-metering in helping businesses better manage and measure data as part of net-zero strategies.
Sub-meters can be used for anything which is measurable – for example water, electricity and gas, and even air quality. As such, they are a useful tool in outlining how businesses can cut carbon and improve efficiency on the road to net-zero.
Sub-metering can help an organisation make critical decisions about what types of onsite energy generation it might want to deploy – for example, solar panels or electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
This guide features an array of top tips as well as an industry viewpoint from EDF Energy’s technical manager for industrial and commercial metering and solutions Robin Adams.
Adams argues that sub-metering should “should be at the forefront of an organisation’s net-zero strategy”, rather than an afterthought.
“Whether it’s to insulate a site, install EV charging points, or upgrade heating and lighting, it’s sensible to baseline consumption from the start. Having that data helps build the investment case but can also help target investments towards the areas with the biggest bang,” Adams states.
“Ongoing monitoring will show if you’re achieving return on investment, but metering can also have direct impact on whether you achieve objectives.”
