edie makes new sustainability commitments for ‘Mission Possible Pledge Wall’ at edie Live

Sustainability, energy and resource professionals are being called upon to make bold new commitments for our 'Mission Possible Pledge Wall' being built at the edie Live exhibition next week (22-23 May) – and we are going to be leading by example, announcing two new sustainability pledges of our own.

There is now less than a week until the show doors open for edie Live 2018 at the NEC Birmingham, and – in case you hadn’t noticed – the show is taking the theme of Mission Possible – edie’s brand new campaign which seeks to empower and inspire sustainability professionals to achieve a sustainable future for their business.

The two-day event is offering visitors a host of new features to help them on their respective missions – including the Mission Possible Pledge Wall located on the edie stand (L24).

How the Wall works…

The Pledge Wall will start as a blank canvas, ready for commitments to be made. Throughout the two days of the show, visitors will be encouraged to come to make a new pledge – writing the pledge on a coloured post-it note and sticking it onto the wall.

No pledge is too small or too ambitious for the wall – so long as it is a new, tangible action that the you believe will help your organisation on its mission to achieve a sustainable future. The pledge should fit into one or more of the five key campaign pillars of Mission Possible: Energy, Resources, Mobility, The Built Environment, and Business Leadership.

It may be that you want to pledge to achieve further alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals; perhaps new actions are needed to drive internal engagement on sustainability; or maybe you feel bold enough to commit to new energy, waste or water reduction targets – the Mission Possible Pledge Wall is the ideal platform to show your pledge to the world.

edie’s new pledges

Of course, we’re keen to ‘walk the sustainability walk’ here at edie. And so we can today (16 May) announce that our publisher, Faversham House, will make two new Mission Possible Pledges for the Wall as part of our own commitment to a sustainable future.

Faversham House will pledge to:

  • “Ensure we only serve sustainably sourced food at all of our conferences, events and awards”
  • “Reduce our direct (Scope 1) emissions by 10% over a five-year period (baseline year to be established in 2018)”

Commenting on the pledge’s edie’s content director Luke Nicholls said: “Our Mission Possible campaign is all about being bold and making change happen, and that must start right here, with us.

“Last year, Faversham House established its own Environmental Taskforce to identify particular areas where the business can make sustainable improvements. The commitments announced today are part of an Environmental Action Plan that we believe will put us on the right track to achieve a sustainable future.

“Now, we want edie readers to follow suit. Whether you are looking to reduce impacts, improve operational efficiencies, or drive success through new collaborations and engagement opportunities – success must start with commitment. And our Mission Possible Pledge Wall at edie Live is the perfect opportunity to do so.”

If you are unable to attend edie Live on 22-23 May, but would still like to make a new ‘Mission Possible Pledge’ for your business, please post your pledge as a comment at the bottom of this article, and the edie team will ensure that your commitment is stuck on the Pledge Wall at edie Live.

A pledge from the Hull College Group:
Hull College Group is committed to reducing it’s environmental impacts by 2% in the current academic year and subsequent years across the following:
Carbon, Gas, Electricity, Water, Paper, Waste, Business Mileage and to increase the Biodiversity Index by 2 points.

This is a continuation of a journey started in 2009/10.

Thank you David – that’s a great pledge. We will place add that to the Pledge Wall at the show next week and tweet the pic to @hullcollegegrp. Good luck on your mission! Luke (content director, edie)
