In total, 225 professionals responded to the survey. Most work in-house on sustainability, energy, ESG and/or CSR at UK-based businesses.

Their answers provide a unique snapshot of the current state of play and likely future trajectory of sustainability finance within the UK’s private sector.

This new free-to-download report provides a detailed analysis of the survey results, covering:

  • Whether corporate finance teams are engaging more closely with sustainability functions
  • Opportunities to align environmental sustainability and cost savings amid the energy price crisis
  • Views on embedding just transition principles into business strategies

This report includes an exclusive viewpoint from Lloyds Bank’s managing director and head of sustainability & ESG finance, Jonas Persson.

Persson urges businesses not to lose sight of the range of benefits from investing in sustainability for the long-term despite short-term pressures.

He writes: “Four out of five business leaders who responded [to this survey] are expecting to be more committed to take action on sustainability in 2023 compared to 2022. I think the response reflects the gradual move towards the implementation phase, after years of developing ambitions and targets.”

This report also features insights from senior representatives at the UK Sustainable Investment & Finance Association, the SME Climate Hub and the Aldersgate Group.
