Friends of the Earth’s new regional recycling league table evaluated people’s attitudes to recycling at home and in the workplace and put all the regions in order of how much they love to recycle.

The south west topped the poll with 77% saying they recycle even if it requires extra effort.

Second was the east of England, followed by east Midlands, west Midlands, the north west, the south east, Yorkshire & The Humber and London (both in seventh place) and lastly, the north east.

Nationally 73% of people said they recycle even if it requires additional effort with almost half of people (48%) saying they’ve cut down on food waste in response to recent food price rises.

More than a third (36%) of workers in the region also said their workplace had basic recycling facilities or none at all.

Friends of the Earth’s waste campaigner Julian Kirby said: “Our survey shows that we’re a nation of recycling lovers with many people keen to get the rubbish out of their bins and into the recycling.”
