Environment Agency to publish delayed CRC league table next week

The Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed that the delayed Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) performance league table will be published on the 26th February following a five month delay.

Originally set for release back in October 2012, inaccurate data and errors in information amongst a number of companies has been cited as the reason behind the delay.

Covering a total of 2,761 organisations, the table ranks in order who is managing their energy use most efficiently.

It will be the final league table published following the Government’s decision to scrap it last year amid a set of changes to simplify the CRC and reduce the administrative burden placed on businesses.

Speaking to edie, IEMA’s executive director of policy, Martin Baxter, said: “When it was first set up the emphasis was on where you would appear on the performance league table which was a clear incentive because that would decide just how successful you might be financially in the scheme.

“However, where you appear in the league table has become less important and with the decision earlier this year where they looked first at simplification of the CRC and then scrapping the performance league table, the visibility of CRC has disappeared completely,” added Baxter.

Manchester United Football Club topped the UK’s first CRC Energy Efficiency Performance League Table back in November 2011.
