Environment Council to focus on climate change and environmental integration

Preparations for this month's Bonn Climate Conference and discussions on sectoral integration of environmental concerns will be the main items on the agenda of next week's council meeting of EU environment ministers.

Starting 12 October, the Council will also discuss the policy guidelines in the directives on emission ceilings and on ozone, and decide on the Community framework for co-operation in the field of accidental marine pollution. The Council will hear the Presidency information on the directive on limit values for benzene and carbon monoxide in ambient air, and a report on the negotiations for a biosafety protocol.
Also, the Council is expected to approve conclusions on curbing carbon dioxide emissions from passenger cars, in connection with the negotiations for a voluntary agreement with car manufacturers who are not members of European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
