EPA launches pesticide safety website

The EPA has created a website about pesticide safety specifically aimed at farm workers, certified pesticide applicators, and health care workers. The site offers comprehensive information on approved pesticide application techniques, farm worker protection standards and up-to-date methods of diagnosing and treating instances of pesticide poisoning.

The Pesticide Safety Programs website can be accessed in both English and Spanish. Key to the website’s purpose of improving information available to health care workers is access to the newly-revised version of EPA’s pesticide poisoning handbook.

The fifth edition of Recognition and Management of Pesticide Poisonings is edited by Dr. Routt Reigart and Dr. James Roberts.

The new edition covers approximately 1,500 pesticides. Information regarding toxicology, signs and symptoms of poisoning and recommended treatment is provided. New pesticides, introduced since 1989, are included and there is a new chapter on disinfectants.
