EPA tells Americans to get ready for information on drinking water quality

Television, radio and print advertisements were launched on 19 July by the EPA to let Americans know that they will soon receive information regarding the quality and safety of their drinking water. The Consumer Confidence Reports will be issued annually.

Between July and October, most Americans will receive their first Consumer Confidence Reports. The reports will come from drinking water suppliers and will include information regarding contaminants, potential health effects of contaminants exceeding public health standards, enforcement and compliance details and sources of local drinking water.

The provision of annual Consumer Confidence Reports is required by amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. The EPA advertisements are available in English and Spanish.

Water consumers in France receive a similar annual report regarding drinking water quality.
