EU and Australia to hold regular climate talks

Australian politicians are to meet with their European counterparts twice a year to discuss climate change and energy security.

The move signals a growing Australian acceptance of the need to address climate change. Last week the country announced plans to work with New Zealand on setting up an emissions trading scheme for the Asia Pacific region which would work along similar lines to the scheme already in place in Europe.

On Monday Australia’s Foreign Minister Alexander Downer announced the regular high level talks to help his country and Europe reach a closer understanding on climate policy.
