An agreement to build the EUR30 million park was reached by the Green Energy Service Companies (Gasco) network and funders from the world of equity and capital investment.

The park, which will be built on one of three shortlisted sites, is expected to attract green technology companies, agri-food businesses and sustainable product developers.

A total of seven such parks are planned, one for each region of the country.

Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships, where the planned park was announced, advisory body Teagasc and Sustainable Energy Ireland revealed how important bio-energy crops would be.

Together with the Department of Agriculture, Teagasc and SEI launched a DVD on production and use of energy crops.

Minister for agriculture and food Brendan Smith also used the championship to announce advanced payments of EUR1 billon under the EU’s Disadvantaged Area Scheme as a result of poor harvest.
