Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) graduate of the year 2011 is Global Action Plan’s (GAP) youth volunteering manager Heather Poore.

GAP is a charity partnership which works with business to reduce their emissions, waste and water use.

This year’s environmental graduate award winner was announced at IEMA’s annual conference this week.

Collecting her award Ms Poore said: “I am extremely delighted to be recognised by IEMA.

“I’m so fortunate to be in this sector because I believe there is a way to engage everyone in taking responsibility for the environment and sustainability.”

Presenting the award chairman of the judges and director of environment at Land Securities, Dave Farebrother, said: “Heather is an outstanding example of how environmental graduates are bringing the skills that will embed environmental thinking into business practice.

“Her work at GAP, where she has shown outstanding commitment to inspiring young people to turn environmental messages into action, is an excellent example of this.

“As sponsor of the awards, Land Securities believes environmental skills are becoming increasingly important and it is vital business has the right knowledge and skills to move forwards and avoid repeating past mistakes.”
