The British prime minister joined United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon and Ethiopian leader Meles Zenawi to High Level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing.

All three took part in a podcast last week to mark the launch of the scheme.

The launch of the group follows the agreement reached at the Copenhagen climate conference that $100billion a year of public and private finance will be needed by 2020 to help developing countries.

Mr Brown said: “We are combating climate change by ensuring the poorest countries have the finance necessary to do so.

“If we can resolve this problem, then I believe many of the other challenges of climate change can be resolved.

“So the task before us, while daunting, is a very important one to the future of the environment of the world.”
