The guide includes advice on vehicle specification, maintenance of vehicles, as well as driver training, and has already received enthusiastic industry backing. “I believe the Fuel Management Guide will enable all within the industry to look at innovative ways of saving a worthwhile percentage of fuel costs and provide much benefit to my fellow operators,” said John Bridge, Chairman of the Road Haulage Association, and managing director of a 35 vehicle business.

The Government has pointed out that the haulage industry needs to improve its performance and efficiency, benefiting companies with lower fuel bills, and cutting pollution to the environment.

“Anyone from the owner-driver to managers of large fleets can gain from reading this new standard for the best practice techniques on fuel economy,” said Andrew Davis, logistics sector manager from the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme (EEBPP). “Many experts in the industry have been involved in the publication of this quality guide. The guide has a self-audit check list which the operator can use to find easy reference to any areas he needs further information.”
