Green accreditation scheme set up to give businesses a boost
Companies can gain a competitive edge by boosting their environmental credentials, according to Viridor and Peterborough Environment City (PECT) which have recently partnered as part of a green accreditation scheme.
The Investors in the Environment (IiE) scheme was set up by green charity PECT to help businesses save money and reduce their impact on the environment. As part of the scheme, Viridor will offer local firms advice on how to improve their green credentials and gain accreditation.
IiE green business officer, Kim Coley, said that Viridor was chosen to sponsor because of its environmental expertise.
She said: “Being environmental experts, Viridor are a valuable business to have on board. They will provide vital support to the IiE scheme and will be a key resource for our members. Leading by example they are working towards IiE Green Level environmental accreditation. ”
As part of the accreditation process, businesses are required to follow five steps, including; adopting an environmental policy, measuring resource use and environmental impact setting targets, agreeing and implementing an action plan and monitoring on progress.
It is anticipated that the scheme, which has more than 85 firms participating, will help businesses gain a competitive edge and reduce their costs through improved environmental performance. Businesses will also be offered opportunities to network with others in the sector.
Commenting on the partnership, Viridor regional manager, Paul Rowland, said: “General awareness of environmental issues is increasing and with it the demand for products and services that are provided with care for the environment.
“The IiE scheme not only helps businesses improve their environmental record but provides them with an accountable way of demonstrating their achievements to their stakeholders.”
