Improved plant lets Welsh recycle bottles in Wales
New equipment for a recycling facility in Wales will allow the country to sort, clean and re-use bottles without having to move them out of the country first.
At the moment although recycling can be mostly processed in Wales much of the process takes place in England due to the lack of Welsh facilities.
To stop this the Welsh Assembly has given £450,000 for the new facilities in Ebbw Vale owned by Plastic Sorting.
It is expected to be opened in 2010 and will be a fully green building with rainwater harvesting as well as heat and electricity generated from a renewable fuel source.
Jane Davidson, Welsh environment, sustainability and housing minister said: “I am delighted we have been able to support this important new project – a first in Wales.
“Having clean, good quality recyclable material such as plastic bottles will be a key part in making our vision for a society that produces as little waste as possible. This new plant will also mean local jobs and investment.”
