INDIA: Desalination plants to serve slum areas
Desalination plants are being constructed to supply slum areas at the tail-end of Chennai's (Madras) water supply network.
The installation of the plants is seen as a social obligation for which the water agency receives no financial return. Because of the high cost and lack of cost recovery, some doubt whether the schemes will be sustainable. There have already been some complaints from that supply is irregular and inadequate.
