Flexible energy systems

DEFINITION: Energy systems whereby patterns of generation and/or consumption are altered in line with external signals such as changes in price. Such “smart” systems have been praised for their ability to mitigate the variability of renewable generation, bolster energy efficiency, minimise carbon emissions and reduce energy bills.
