Frequency response

DEFINITION: A fast-acting demand response service, required in order to cope with large deviations in frequency caused by the loss of power generation on the grid. The service can respond in under a second in some cases.

It is unusual for this activity to last more than half an hour. Frequency response is provided to the electricity grid through the interruption of demand at demand response customer sites.
