Jason Leonard launches energy charity event

The event, which claims to be the largest annual charity fundraising event for the energy industry in the UK, is run by the BG Group.

Now in its sixteenth year the BG Group hopes to build on the £2.5million raised by the event so far.

The event is a multi-faceted one which challenges everyone – physically, mentally and strategically – over two days.

Each team may have to ride mountain bikes across rough terrain, canoe across inland waterways, solve puzzles, crack codes, climb mountains or orienteer its way through dense forest.

This year activities will take place on the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, South Wales between the July 7 and 9.

England’s most capped union player of all time and former British Lion said: “The event is well known for the team spirit, camaraderie and sense of achievement participants experience and it was an opportunity not to be missed.

“I am also looking to help raise public awareness of Sparks and the amazing work they do to ensure all babies are given the best chance of being born healthy and staying healthy.”

Money raised will be supporting two charities – the children’s medical research charity Sparks, who will benefit for the fifth successive year and CARE International, the overseas development agency which has been involved since the inaugural event in 1996.
