Lancashire County Council calls for greener travellers

Lancashire County Council’s TravelWise team is calling for schools and businesses to apply for cash in order to help their employees become greener travellers.

The organisation, which aims to encourage the public to use alternative forms of transport to the car, is giving grants to schools and businesses to enable them to install cycle racks and shower facilities, a scheme which is already generating interest with three organisations already receiving grants for other TravelWise schemes.

“People often say that they would be more likely to travel to work by bike if there were facilities for them to lock up their cycles and get changed after,” said a TravelWise spokesperson. “We have already awarded our first grants and will be monitoring the success of the schemes over the next few months. We are now looking for more schools and businesses to come forward and take advantage of our offer.”

The County Council will soon be appointing a new workplace travel co-ordinator in order to further develop staff travel plan initiatives, and to help organisations make the most of their green travel potential.
