Advances in waste management
With over 30 years experience in waste management, ISO 14001-accredited Advanced Treatment Technology is focusing on helping waste producers reduce their reliance on landfill and minimise their costs of disposal, while maintaining the highest environmental standards. Chairman, Hugh Hoather, explains howThe waste management industry has reached a watershed with the plethora of directives and regulations coming from Europe. Use of landfill, which has been the backbone of disposal in the UK, is being restricted on an unprecedented scale and the wastes most seriously affected are those which are hazardous and difficult to treat.
Advanced Treatment Technology (ATT) has developed alternative waste management techniques that are able to remove contaminates from liquid wastes.
What makes the company unique is that producers' waste is chemically tested and treated at their premises to provide the optimum treatments based on the analysis, flow rates, discharge limits and costs. This has many environmental advantages in addition to considerable cost savings to the producers.
The technique involves a robust method of coagulation and flocculation, which can achieve reductions of 95 per cent of suspended solids, 80 per cent of soluble organics and 100 per cent metals.
The company has successfully managed the removal of arsenic, chromium and copper
ions from waste generated by a company treating and preserving timber.
