Deals put Grontmij and Atkins in frame

Consultancies Atkins and Grontmij will both be providing Scottish Water with strategic support services having being appointed to several frameworks delivering the utility’s £2.5B Q&SIIIb capital investment programme up to 2015.

Atkins is to provide a range of professional services across six major frameworks, covering services including asset performance and business planning; non-infrastructure design; water infrastructure design; wastewater infrastructure design; wastewater modelling; and dams and reservoirs.
Grontmij has three frameworks covering Technical Strategic Support Services; Technical Design Services; and Specialist Consultancy Support Services. They signal the continuation of an ongoing, long-term relationship between the companies. These include a range of activities including source to tap and sink to sea initiatives; and improving water quality and reducing sewer flooding for customers.
Grontmij regional director Paul Smedley said: “We are very pleased to be appointed to these frameworks, which are testament to the fact that our project teams continue to deliver an efficient, innovative service to water and energy utility companies. Scottish Water is a key client and the team has a long-standing relationship with the company, built over many years.”
Mick Foote, the managing director of Atkins’ water operations, said: “The frameworks cover a broad array of technical requirements and we will draw on expertise from across the business in order to fulfil the client’s needs.
“This is where Atkins excels though because of the depth and breadth of our consultancy business.
“Our approach of partnering with clients will also be vital as we must ensure that we’re not only delivering the highest quality of work but we’re doing it in a time-critical and cost-effective way. The regulator has set challenging efficiency targets but our long history and excellent relationships with Scottish Water will help us to help them to deliver.”
Ken Hutchison, asset and investment manager at Scottish Water, said: “It is our aim during this investment programme to continue the good work and put Scottish Water on a par with the best in the UK water industry.
“Our partners will be central in delivering on our objectives of driving up performance in drinking water quality, protecting the natural environment and service improvements, such as reducing interruptions to supply.”
