Industrial carbon dioxide emissions increase crop yield

Wisconsin-based AG Gas claims to have achieved excellent results from its use of carbon dioxide emissions for open-field crop yield enhancement.

The company, which is running commercial farm pilot projects, has combined established science with its proprietary technology to produce a 120% increase in marketable tomato production and a 28% increase in high-value winter strawberries in open-fields.

Company researchers are confident that with improvements to the technology, even higher yields are possible.

The carbon dioxide enrichment technology uses microtubes to provide uniform gas distribution to the fields of crops, similar to micro-irrigation.

AG Gas is currently developing the methods, systems hardware and economic models needed to introduce this emerging technology to the business community.

The company has also enlisted agricultural researchers in California to help verify the production and benefits of the new technology.

The demand potential for carbon dioxide for crop enrichment agriculture is significant.

The technology will not only be attractive to the agricultural community, as it could enable industrial companies to turn carbon dioxide from an off-balance sheet liability into an income-generating asset.

AG Gas also predicts that its carbon dioxide enrichment technology may help reduce irrigation demands, making more freshwater available, promote valuable soil management and make marginal and greenbelt lands more productive.
