New concepts offer options in waste collection
Innovation took pride of place among the chassis and body manufacturers on show at CIWM Torbay 2004. On the Trio stand Maclift introduced a compact fixed arm skiploader and also introduced a new enhancement on the safety front on the Kerbside Kollector in the shape of a new harness system which simplifies safety controls. No wiring is needed when extra safety features are being added.
Waste handling and moving floor specialist, Legras Industries, based in France, showed the new Compact'In Moving Floor semi trailer for household and trade waste transport.
The company has secured an order for three more trailers for Tyseley Waste. Legras can offer a wide range of waste handing solutions in addition to its range of moving floor trailers.
The Compact'In moving floor semi trailer is reinforced for loading using a fixed compactor and the lightweight aluminium body is designed to withstand direct compaction forces. The company claims that the system can load up to 30% more than a standard steel ejection trailer, citing the example of 17 tonnes of cardboard in 83m3.
A guillotine type rear door, which is quick and easy to operate ensures safety. The rear door frame is stated to be compatible with compactor hangars and the moving floor unloading system enables safe operation on uneven ground.
Kerbside Recycling, which provides both production and bespoke solutions to customers' recycling requirements showed one its latest vehicles on the Muni-Serv stand. The two companies have formed a partnership, combining Kerbside Recycling's wide experience of the waste and recycling markets with Muni-Serv's expertise in service and support for all types of municipal equipment.
Compactor body specialist Garwood was another exhibitor at the CIWM event providing a range of innovative solutions in refuse and recycling collection equipment including the Bantam with 6m3 capacity and 1,100 litres bin lift and the Powapact range.
On the vehicle chassis front BMC showed three vehicles at Torquay this year. These were two Pro 518 models, which are plated to 12.7 tonnes gvw -one with a 9m3 refuse collection body and the other with a skiploader with telescopic arms. These bodies were supplied by the factory and are included in the two year standard warranty offered by BMC.
The Pro 518 uses a Cummins Isbe ZF Meritor 0.driveline and is available with the day sleeper or crew cab options. The third vehicle is a M+BMC 1100 - FE School Bus which is 11 metres in length and seats 60. The driveline is a Cummins Allison Meritor.
