The Environment Agency is made up of eight Regional Operations across England and Wales, with the Head Office in Bristol.
It is a large organisation, employing more than 10,000 people across a huge range of specialist areas. Where do I start?
All vacancies are advertised on the Environment Agency's website (www.environment-agency.gov.uk/jobs) as well as in relevant national, regional or specialist media. Applicants will be given information about individual roles and the types of qualifications, skills and experience they need to be successful in them.
The Agency is committed to equality of opportunity and aims to reflect the diversity of the community. They want to ensure that opportunities are made available to as wide an audience as possible and encourage applications from ethnic minority, disabled groups and women, as they are underrepresented amongst Environment Agency staff at some levels.
The Agency also operates an online recruitment capability that enables applicants to view information and then to apply directly through the website. They are also able to register their interest for future vacancies. This system has been running since 2004.
A range of techniques for selecting candidates is used and the make up of these will depend very much on the type of job and the Agency's experience of successfully recruiting to such positions. Applicants can be assured that everyone being considered for a particular post will go through a consistent assessment process, adapted as necessary for those who have special requirements.
Selection tools may include aptitude and personality tests, presentations, role plays, group exercises and, of course, interviews, but candidates will be made aware of the exercises they will be completing for an individual position prior to attending an assessment event.
