Twin-track soil contamination removal

A twin-track system for removing soil contamination - developed by environmental engineers MEL of Wakefield - is providing cost savings and technical benefits while fitting unobtrusively into the client's normal working environment.

The extraction process relies on a groundwater abstraction pump working alongside an FPZ side-channel exhauster. Trial application of the low-profile site-cleaning technique at a busy filling station in the Home Counties has left motorists unaware that soil remediation work is in progress under their wheels as they come and go on the forecourt.

The system is self monitoring and is designed to work around the clock for the period required to complete the operation – typically six months to a year. The FPZ is virtually maintenance free, requires no lubrication, and can be serviced on site.
