Heavyweight recycling plant goes on show at Site Clearance Zone

The major advances that specialist contractors and machinery manufacturers have made in the areas of contaminated land, clearance, materials reclamation, demolition and recycling, are reflected once again this year in kit being demonstrated in the dedicated area for the very latest in specialist equipment - the Site Clearance Zone at SED

Recycling plant and materials handling and landfill construction equipment

feature in this year’s wide-ranging SED construction show at Fen Farm, Milton

Keynes, from 14-16 May, featured in LAWE’s special Focus preview. For full details

on the all-action SED, including prior registration, see the website www.sed.co.uk

Landforce is a brand new exhibitor to SED and will be taking its position in

the Site Clearance Zone. Products on display and demonstration will include

the Forester CHIP235 and DUO170.

These machines form part of a six-model range of units. The smallest model

is the stand-alone Forester SHRED420, which is a dedicated shredding machine

with the capacity to shred material up to 2 inches – also the Forester Duo units

that incorporate a side-mounted shredding facility and an end-mounted chipping

facility.

Finlay BME diversifies

Finlay BME is also making its debut at SED this year. In 2003 the company will

be celebrating its golden anniversary and to coincide with this milestone, the

company, under its new ownership, is diversifying and expanding its product

range and market sectors to include mobile block machines, stationary block/paver

machines, portable batching plants, mobile screening machines and mobile crushing

machines.

As part of this diversification strategy, Finlay BME is launching the new 12×5

Tracked Screening Plant at SED2002. The new range of screens and crushers will

be marketed under the “Fintec” brand name. Initially the range of

Fintec screens and crushers will be targeted at the UK/Ireland market.

Finlay is also in negotiations with a European crusher manufacturer. Although

details of the deal have yet to be released, it is thought that once concluded,

Finlay would co-manufacture and sell a range of crushers for the recycling industry

on a global basis.

BL-Pegson is demonstrating three of its established tracked crushing machines.

First in line is the 1000 Maxtrak, which is based around the Automax cone crusher.

This track- mounted crusher incorporates many features found on its wheeled

mobile plant. It has a self-contained plant with feed hopper and level probes.

In most applications, the 1000 Maxtrak is able to take an “all in”

feed from the jaw crusher, eliminating the need for pre-screening. It also features

a metal detection system to reduce the chance of tramp metal entering the crushing

chamber.

For processing of quarried rock, demolition debris and recyclable materials,

BL-Pegson is showing the 428 Trakpactor, which has an output of up to 250 tonnes

per hour.

Another machine is the 1100×650 Premiertrak, a track-mounted jaw crusher, which

is suitable for both hard rock and recycling applications.

The company is also revealing the latest developments in “Doublescreen”

tracked and wheeled screening systems.

Doppstadt (UK) Ltd will be showcasing a two-in-one shredder designed to maximize

throughput and address the problem of contamination in wood waste. The 610hp

DZ 750 Kombi combines a slow speed single shaft shredding unit with a high speed

hammermill shredder.

New windrow technique

Also on show in the UK for the first time is the Doppstadt DU Panda windrow

turner, which can be fitted to any agricultural tractor unit with a power output

of around 160hp and offers what the company states is “a completely new

technology for improved turning.” Two large milling cutter discs slice

into the side of the windrow, so there is no limit to the size of the windrow

that can be handled. This action also helps to shred further any large material

and increases aeration. The material is then moved by a fast running conveyor

belt and is discharged on the far side of the machine to form one of two new

windrows using a bi-rotational roller. The shape and size of the new windrow

is determined by the hydraulically adjustable discharge hood.

Other exhibits include the Doppstadt AK430 shredder which can handle a wide

range of materials.

Tackling the fridge mountain

Kendall Machinery UK Ltd is showing four new machines at SED – the 2680 Beast

compact shredder, aimed at the smaller end of the shredding market, the Tracked

Chipper (6 inch) 65 model, the 680 horsepower 3680 Beast and a Tracked Stump

Grinder. These machines are all making their UK debut.

On a topical note Kendall has announced a “major breakthrough” in

dealing with the backlog of fridges which need do to be disposed of. The Beast

3680 is modified to give an output of over 300 fridges per hour. DEFRA has been

involved at all stages of development and a factory will soon be in commission

to help reduce the “fridge mountain”.

Baughans Barrel Screens is showing three models, stated to be both simple and

cost effective. The models offer a range of options, including the ability to

be mobile, static, electric or diesel. The models will accept skip waste, compost

and soil.

The new Barrel Screen mini is now in full production and is the only British

Screen of its type – 2.5 tonnes, manoeuvrable and fast tow on Tri-axle.

The company has just acquired Hawkfawk, and will be showing at SED 2002, a

Grapple, a Stumpsplitter and a Pulverizer. Baughans is hoping to manufacture

the rest of the Hawkfawk range.

Powerscreen is giving a UK debut to the brand new Tracked Titan and Extec is

launching its Tracked Impact Crusher, the Extec C-12, the Mini-trac concept

for the existing three-way product split screening system systems and is also

revealing the latest developments in “Doublescreen” tracked and wheeled

screening systems.

Metso Minerals (UK) is using the Site Clearance Zone to launch new products,

including a new track-mounted mobile crusher and a new track-mounted primary

scalping screen from the company’s Nordberg range. There is also a new Nordberg

LT95 mobile crusher and the ST171 mobile screen.

Liebherr is displaying and demonstrating machines across a wide range plus

a wheeled A 316 in operation in the Site Clearance Zone. For waste management

the company is exhibiting the LR632 Tracked Loading Shovel with full factory-fitted

landfill kit.

JCB is taking the wraps off its most advanced backhoe loader at SED 2002, showing

a new generation of JCB 3CX and 4CX models.

JCB is also expanding into the rehandling and forestry industries by introducing

a new wheeled loading shovel, the JCB 456 HT (High Torque).
