Launched during the summer, the Boulevard programme is aimed at totally rejuvenating the borough’s environment. Key activities include the repair and improvement of major roads, streets and shopping areas, the clearing away of old, redundant street furniture and generally brightening up the area.

The new equipment supplied by Euromec comprises six Azura street cleaning vehicles (three sweepers and three scrubbers) and five Brava pedestrian sweepers.

Tom McMahon, Street Environmental Manager at Camden Borough Council, said: “As we are investing such a substantial amount in the programme it was imperative we used the best possible methods and equipment to do the job.”

As part of an evaluation exercise the council toured major European cities to find out about different schemes and available equipment. It was on such a visit that Mr McMahon first saw the Azura in action in Paris. Euromec arranged a demonstration subsequently for the council.

Powered by a VM 2,800cc four-cylinder turbo charger, with an overall width of 1,230mm, the multi functional Azura is fitted with a high powered suction fan with a turbine flow rate of 13,000m3. The hopper capacity is 2m3.

The Azura scrubbing machine, the Aquadyne 2500, is very similar to the sweeper in design and is manufactured to the same specification. As the Aquadyne does not have a suction fan, the hopper is used as a 2,500 litres capacity water tank. It is also fitted with five large diameter scrubbing brushes.

The third element in the package of Euromec machines in the package is the Brava pedestrian sweeper which is stated to feature very low noise levels.

“As a matter of policy we generally subcontract environmental cleaning to third parties,” said Tom McMahon, “however, as Boulevard is such a huge undertaking, we felt it was necessary to augment our own facilities with state-of-the-art equipment.” He stated that Euromec provided innovative and economical street cleaning solutions together with a comprehensive maintenance package at a realistic price.
