First Applied Sweepers 636 goes to Guildford

The order follows a trial of different makes by the council to find a smaller vehicle, one weighing less than three tonnes and thus able to work effectively over “slabs”, while offering a similar performance to a lighter end compact. In addition, the machine selected was required to deep cleanse through the many tight alleys plus over the narrow roads and pavements in central Guildford. The fact that the machine could be driven by a normal car licence holder was also a factor.

The 636 High-Speed Green Machine is a high powered, higher payload capacity, clean fan alternative from the same mould as Applied Sweepers through-the-fan 4×4, the 525, used in the trial. It has a number of new and innovative features, including CloudMaker technology, which is combined with effective dust control to minimise water consumption and eliminate the hopper space otherwise wasted, storing “used” dust control water and sludge. Useful payload has therefore been increased to boost “on station” time and range.

In addition, the Applied Sweepers’ 636 fulfils the role of a 1m3 cubic metre compact sweeper for many general applications: the company states that the machine’s high suction is the most powerful in its class. It also has safety features for high speed transit operations, including full automotive style suspension on all four wheels and the patented Vari-Track front axle. Back-up mechanical braking on all four wheels, not just two, duplicates the hydrostatic braking system to add a safety plus by minimising the risk of skidding or jack-knifing in emergency braking situations.

Also, front and rear diff locks engage automatically on wheel spin to aid traction and improve safety further, say when climbing kerbs.

The strong, rigid stainless steel “safety cage”‘ cab frame is designed to offer substantial further operator protection.
