FAUN shows wide recycling range at RWM 2005

Featured on the FAUN Municipal Vehicles display at RWM this year was the first Renault Puncher vehicle in the UK. This right hand drive chassis was mounted with a FAUN Variopress 20m3 body and Zoeller Rotary binlifter.

One of 10 Faun Variopress Compact 9m3 vehicles purchased recently by Gullivers Municipal Hire Services was also on show.

FAUN also demonstrated a Toppress X vehicle, which one of seven units working for Stirling Council. This vehicle is fitted with the Pressbox interchangeable container system and is mounted on a specially modified Mercedes Econic 2528L 6X2, rear steer chassis. It is fitted with a FAUN Shuttle Lift bin lifter which is fitted with a Diamond lifting device to enable the collection of Diamond Bins, specified by Stirling Council.

Nearer to home, the Llangefni, Anglesey, RCV manufacturer, is working closely with the independent municipal services provider Verdant Group plc, which holds the waste collection and recycling contract for the Isle of Anglesey County Council. The FAUN factory supplies waste collection vehicles to Verdant to pick up Anglesey’s waste.

Having a vehicle manufacture situated in the middle of a contract area does have its advantages. Gail Evans, Verdant’s Business Manager for the Anglesey contract, comments, “Getting hold of spares is very easy and we are always happy to test wagons on our rounds.”

The Anglesey contract covers refuse collection, recycling, street cleaning, beach cleaning, the cleaning of public conveniences and over 700 trade waste collections.

EU funding, secured through a partnership with Anglesey Council and Menter Môn – Anglesey’s Enterprise Agency – and Verdant has created the “Cleanstream Project” to bring recycling to Holyhead and surrounding areas. Two vehicles are being operated by Verdant and one by Menter Môn. Mr Evans says, “We started picking up recyclables in 10,000 Holyhead homes in March: it is going so well that we extended the scheme, at the beginning of June, to over 11,000 homes.”

The Anglesey contract utilises 20 vehicles comprising of refuse collection vehicles, sweepers and caged recycling vehicles. Six of these vehicles are front line FAUN refuse collection vehicles and four are recycling vehicles.

FAUN also supplies vehicles to Verdant across England.
