Creative installation for Corus

Not-for-profit community recycling organisation Creation Recycling in South Yorkshire has benefited from improved reliability of its steel recycling operations after installing new equipment from Corus Steel Packaging Recycling (CSPR).

Before the equipment was put in place, Creation Recycling’s existing equipment was working poorly, with breakdowns and stoppages causing operational difficulties.

The new machinery includes a hopper, feed conveyor, overband sorter and steel baler for the organisation. This will ensure that the 600 tonnes of steel per annum handled by Creation Recycling, equivalent to 15 million steel cans, can be recovered efficiently and recycled.

Dave Williams, manager at CSPR, says: “Local recycling initiatives have an important role to play in the drive to increase steel recycling and, after all, steel is one of the easiest materials for households to recycle.”

Steven Mutch, operations manager at Creation Recycling, adds: “The amount of steel being processed at Creation Recycling has increased by well over 50% in the past few months as a direct result of having the new equipment in place.”

The Rotherham-based organisation collects recyclables from 13,000 households and is contracted to process the material collected by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council from a further 88,000 households. It also operates a commercial collection service for local businesses. To find out more visit the Steel Can Recycling Information Bureau at www.scrib.org
