London museum opens first green roof

Environmentalist and TV presenter Dusty Gedge gave edie.net a personal tour of the Museum of London's new green roof as a prelude to the upcoming World Green Roof Congress 2010.

Mr Gedge, who presented Channel 4 programme Wild Thing – I Love You, worked on the vision behind the museum’s green roof which opened to the public for the first time today (July 21).

The museum, a short walk from St Paul’s Cathedral, could be one of the City of London’s largest green roof retrofitting schemes and, according to Mr Gedge, has the potential to become an exemplar.

The museum hopes to continue greening its roofs and aims to get them all complete by September this year.

That would coincide with the start of the World Green Roof Congress, due to be held in the capital on September 15 and 16.

The tour was organised by green roof consultancy Bauder, supporters of the congress.
