Canteen food waste will be collected from construction sites at the Emirates Air Line at the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, Park House on London’s Oxford Street, and the British Museum.

PDM has been appointed to process the feedstock, including packaged items, at its anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities. The on-site canteens provide breakfast and lunch for around 1,200 workers.

Mace’s contracts director Andy Brown said: “We are always looking for ways to further reduce the environmental impact of our projects – this includes reducing waste across all areas, not just the build process itself.

“We would like to roll out this partnership to all of our major project sites in the future.”

PDM recently announced an investment of £40m to develop its ReFood network of AD plants, which will provide an additional 180,000 tonnes of capacity.
