Morocco sounds alarm on environmental degradation

It has been estimated that the environmental degradation arising from high population growth coupled with moderate economic growth rates is costing Morocco 20 billion dirhams ( US$2 billion) - 8.1 percent of GDP - a year.


According to the Moroccan secretariat for the environment, the overall cost of projects proposed under the 1999-2003 plan to curb degradation is estimated at 683 million dirhams (over US$68 million).
