Most US drinking water systems consistently meet health standards

Around 94 percent of American water systems reported no violations of drinking water standards according to a new annual report by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The survey, “Providing Safe Drinking Water in America: 1998 National Public Water Systems Compliance Report,” provides data on public water systems in the United States. The review also found that 84 percent of all violations were merely due to failures in monitoring and reporting.

Taking steps to ensure that the public’s right to information about the safety of their drinking water, the EPA requires water systems to provide annual reports on the safety of their water.
