SPAIN: The Parliament of Spain’s Extremadura region has called on the national Government to set a timetable for the definitive decommissioning and closure of the region’s Almaraz nuclear power station, reports El Pais.

EU: The European Parliament’s Environment Committee has failed to gain sufficient Parliament support for its proposed amendments to extend EU product liability law to cover genetically modified seeds. The Committee had also wanted to extend the liability period from 10 to 20 years, in the light of known latency periods for diseases such as BSE and CJD.

SPAIN: Boliden Apirsa this week received permission to re-commence mining in Aznalcollar – the site of one of Spain’s worst ecological disasters when a tailings dam burst last year (see
