News Release: Calorex beneath the surface

A heat recovery and dehumidification system from British manufacturer’s Calorex Heat Pumps, is providing a one-stop environmental control solution at the busy Lee Valley Leisure Pool in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.

Reminiscent of an elegant swan hiding its energetic paddle power beneath the water, an HRD unit provides the behind the scene’s engine power for today’s modern leisure pools.

The energy-efficient HRD system will remove moisture from the atmosphere, collect its latent energy and re-use it to assist water and air heating, creating a self-perpetuating heat cycle that ensures energy costs are kept to a minimum.

Not only do Calorex HRD units sustain water and air temperatures, at the same time they control humidity levels and create a fresh poolside atmosphere enjoyed by both customers and staff alike.

“Swimming pools continuously evaporate large volumes of moisture into the space around them and unless this moisture is removed, the humidity level will rise, creating not only an uncomfortable environment but also leading to structural/building fabric damage,” explains Richard Carrington sales director for the environmental control specialists, based in Maldon, Essex.

The Lee Valley leisure pool complex was refurbished four years ago when the Calorex HRD unit was installed and continues to maintain optimum pool air conditions while providing the majority of the pool water and air heating by virtue of heat recovery from the dehumidification process.

“Everyone comments on the air quality and both customers and staff appreciate the air atmosphere,” says Sue Popham, manager of the Leisure Connection run complex that is currently attracting 300,000 visits every year thanks to a packed timetable of activities from sessions for parents and toddlers to sessions for over 50s alongside an on-site Harpers Health and Fitness Club and a poolside Sports Cafe.
