News Release: Middleton Shopping Centre buys another Pakawaste Compactor

Middleton Shopping Centre has recently bought a Powerkrush 75 static compactor from Pakawaste Limited, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of waste handling equipment.

Middleton Shopping Centre is located 5 miles north of Manchester City Centre. The centre has 75 units and a total retail area of 300,000 sq. ft.

Middleton Shopping Centre first bought a P75 static compactor in 1988. The success of this machine prompted the centre to buy an additional P75 in 1997 to deal with general waste. The first machine provided the centre with 12 years service and has recently been replaced with a brand new P75 in order to improve the efficiency of the centre’s waste handling system.

Following a comprehensive site audit Pakawaste were able to recommend a like for like replacement for the P75 with enclosed hopper, as the machine was providing the centre with sufficient compaction facilities.

The Powerkrush 75, one of Pakawaste’s most popular static compactors, is able to reduce waste volume by ratios of approximately five to one. As a result Middleton Shopping Centre will continue to make significant savings on both their waste disposal and transportation costs, and far fewer vehicle collections are needed. Once full, the waste contractor simply detaches the container from the Powerkrush 75 and replaces it with an empty one ensuring that the centre has constant access to compaction facility on site.

In addition to the financial advantages that the installation of the Powerkrush 75 has provided, Middleton Shopping Centre also benefits from significant environmental advantages. By using a compactor, the site can be kept clean and tidy and wind scatter of waste is eliminated. By containerising waster, the risks of both vermin infestation and fire, traditionally associated with the storage of large amounts of loose waste, have been virtually eliminated.
