International environmental team builds a greener future

A new team of internationally-acclaimed environmental specialists has been formed to deliver the most eco-friendly buildings and infrastructure on the planet.

Web Earth is a pioneering global environmental and sustainability consultancy, committed to delivering holistic solutions and stretching the boundaries of design engineering to build a greener future.

The new operation, officially launched this month, is the brainchild of award-winning international design engineer Web Structures, which has a growing reputation for delivering on some of the most challenging building projects across the planet.

Web Earth has brought together a team of environmental experts from the UK, Europe and Asia, led by Richard Outhwaite, an environmental engineering expert who studied at University College London.

The firm has already secured work on major projects in partnership with top international architects including Foster & Partners, Hamiltons International and SCDA, as well as providing specialist design services to multinational companies around the globe.

Web Earth and its team of environmental experts will specialise in sustainable building design, water resources and carbon foot-printing and management — all key areas in creating a greener, more eco-friendly future.

Its unique, individual approach to each project means innovative, tailor-made solutions are provided – whether the development is a luxury resort hotel, residential skyscraper or a complex commercial and industrial project.

The pioneering consultancy will also tap into the expertise of parent company Web Structures, which has worked on award-winning, eco-sensitive projects across the globe, including the highly-acclaimed Four Seasons Resort in Seychelles and the Tokio Marine Center in Singapore.

Web Earth is building its core team of experts and Web Structures group director Dr Hossein Rezai-Jorabi says their “passion†shines through. He believes their approach is the way forward for delivering environmental and sustainability solutions.

He said: “Web Earth’s high-quality sustainable design and simulation places the practice and its talented team at the forefront of the engineering world.

“They demonstrate an in-depth knowledge that continues to stretch the boundaries of existing engineering work practices and using some of the most advanced process available their mission is to provide creative solutions to the most challenging of projects.

“Our team of environmentalists is made up Green Mark, GBI and LEED-certified individuals who are constantly updating their knowledge through research and innovation. People at Web Earth never stop learning.â€

He adds: “At Web Earth we believe that certification is just the beginning of creating a sustainable project.

“To truly achieve a sustainable building, we take a life cycle view, looking at a building’s impact throughout its whole life, from the manufacture of materials and construction, right through to eventual demolition and disposal.

“Using a systems thinking approach also helps us to visualise and solve complex environmental problems.

“From this we are also able to establish the total footprint of a building or development in terms of energy or carbon emissions, something which is becoming increasingly important all over the world.â€

Richard Outhwaite said: “By 2030, it is expected that 60% of the world population will live in urban areas. Inefficient buildings constructed to meet these needs will lock in detrimental energy and carbon impacts for years to come.

“Web Earth’s integrated approach reduces the impact of development on the environment, creating buildings that can have a positive effect on their surroundings.

“Green buildings do not have to cost more either. Studies have shown that on average green buildings cost no more than their orthodox counterparts, attracting premiums for rental and increasing asset value.â€

Web Earth’s expertise includes water management — its hydrological and hydraulic specialists work to prevent urban flooding and improving water quality — as well as creating local amenities, improving the landscape and enhancing biodiversity.

Its team also uses state-of-the-art building simulation to create effective design concepts that reduce energy, resources and water needs through integrative design. Web Earth also uses “passive†design strategies to naturally light, heat and ventilate buildings to reduce operating costs.

Parent group Web Structures has offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London and Shanghai. It has engineered more than 52 residential and mixed-use skyscrapers around the world in the past 15 years.

Its diverse portfolio includes work on award-winning suspension bridges, luxury resort hotels, residential skyscrapers, sky bridges and complex commercial and industrial projects.

Since its creation, Web Structures has worked on more than 350 projects in more than 24 countries, continually building on its reputation in the industry. It has also won numerous international awards.
