TechCentral.ie has reported on research commissioned by Canon, which found that 51% of Irish workers stated that their company does not strive to reduce their environmental impact.

Some 41% of employees in companies that do have green policies admitted that they believed them to be “just for show”.

Maurice Teague, spokesperson for Canon Ireland, expressed his dismay at the lack of interest in employees “doing their bit” for the environment.

“Every office worker needs to understand their individual impact on the environment and taking responsibility for improving company policy needs to be a collaborative effort between bosses and staff,” he said.

“Without effective communication of green strategy throughout an organisation, more damage than good will be done,” he added.

According to Envirowise, office waste in the UK costs businesses some Euro 15bn a year.
