All change at the top of the EA

Baroness Barbara Young, former chief executive of the Environment Agency, has left the organisation to take up an appointment as shadow chair of the Care Quality Commission.

Her departure mirrors that of EA chairman Sir John Harman, to be replaced by Labour peer Chris Smith in July.

Paul Leinster, director of operations at the EA, will be acting chief executive until a permanent appointment is made.
