From today (July 16) activities will take place across the all of Ireland, while in the capital lord mayor, Gerry Breen, officially launched activities at St. Stephen’s Green.

The mayor said he hoped people would take advantage of the activities, running until June 26, to get into cycling and join the dublinbikes rental scheme.

Mr Breen said: “Dublin Bike Week is a great opportunity for anyone who cycles or who wants to start to get together and enjoy some great events, Dublin is now a very bike-friendly city.

“The expanding cycle lane network and the success of dublinbikes and the ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme mean we now see more cyclists than ever in the city.

“At the same time accidents involving cyclists are down showing that cycling is a safe pass time. I encourage everyone to get involved in Dublin Bike Week. Whether you cycle every day or just occasionally – there’s something in Bike Week for you.”
