Speaking at a state lunch for Irish President Mary McAleese, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Helen Clark, said: “We are expecting a number of Irish scientists to travel to Christchurch for the Greenhouse Gases and Agriculture conference we are hosting in November.”
She said the trip was part of how the two countries are working together to tackle emissions from the agricultural sector, which feature prominently in the emissions profile of both countries.
“New Zealand and Ireland are both keenly focused on the international challenges of climate change and improving sustainability,” she added.
Separately, the Irish Agriculture, Fisheries and Food ministry has announced a second series of grants designed to support emerging technologies that will help with on-farm waste processing.
Eight projects will be supported by this financial assistance, building on the investment that was announced earlier this year.
The grants will help farmers meet Nitrates Directive requirements.
