Restaurant guide publishes sustainability ratings

Harden's and the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) have joined forces in a bid to measure the sustainability credentials of UK restaurants, with Carluccio's and Wahaca among those gaining a rating.

As well as offering reviews on food, services and prices, the online and print guides will now feature a list of restaurants which have completed the SRA Sustainability Rating Survey.

A questionnaire is used to assess restaurants’ against criteria including covers energy, water and waste to determine given a one, two or three star sustainability rating.

So far, more than 250 restaurants have been rated by the SRA, with a further 250 currently going through the process.

Thomasina Miers co-owner of Mexican chain Wahaca, which gained a two star Sustainability Champion rating, said the scheme represents “another major step towards making sustainability completely mainstream”.

Harden co-publisher Richard Harden, said: “Like Harden’s, the SRA rates quality eating places of all types right across the UK, so the fit between our two approaches is very strong.”
