Construction contractors can now track what they recycled
Companies processing waste from building sites have been offered a tool which will let them track exactly what is being recycled on their customers' behalf.
A new free tool provided by WRAP makes it easy for companies to track each consignment of construction, demolition or excavation waste offering clients complete transparency on recovery rates, rather than providing best-guess estimates.
The Site Specific Waste Analysis Tool can be downloaded free from WRAP's website.
The government-funded waste reduction organisation has also drawn up a series of legal clauses that waste operators using the tool can insert into their standard contracts, to allow them to use the greater levels of transparency and information as a selling point.
Mike Falconer Hall, programme manager for materials recycling at WRAP, said: "The recycling industry is undergoing a transformation.
"Contractors are now offering ever increasing levels of consultancy to their clients, offering professional guidance as to the most efficient way to manage resources and recover materials.
"Both the Site Specific Waste Analysis Tool and the contractual clauses we have developed will be of significant use to the industry as it adds resource recovery consultancy to its core waste management offering."
