Construction mandarin will focus on sustainable building

The British Government is creating a new position for an expert advisor who will help to promote innovation and sustainability in the building industry.

The Chief Advisor to Government on Construction will also work to ensure that Government’s own building programmes are sustainable and meet targets.

As well as working on broader construction issues, the civil servant will chair ‘an enhanced sustainable construction strategy delivery board’ to help ensure policy regarding the industry is effectively co-ordinated.

He or she will also be expected to identify and assess the key barriers to growth in the UK’s low carbon construction sector to ensure industry is well placed to serve developing needs and markets.

Ian Pearson, the Economic Secretary, said: “This role will provide a central focal point for the construction sector acknowledging the value of this sector and the importance of delivering a sustainable and low carbon economy that remains competitive.”
