The province’s premier, Dalton McGuinty, visited the latest one this week to see the benefits of the national $4.8bn Good Places to Learn program, which is repairing, renew and replace schools.

Students at Northern Secondary School in Toronto will soon have a better place to learn, thanks to the $600m share of the funding being spent in the province.

The scheme, which is also creating more than 5,500 jobs, sees the school getting getting new energy efficient windows and exterior brickwork.

The upgrades will improve classrooms in the 79-year-old school and save the school board energy and money, construction is underway and is due to finish before the cold weather sets in.

Mr Dalton said: “The province is investing $83.1m to help boards retrofit schools in Toronto, this investment will help lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduce annual energy consumption by about 100m megajoules per year, enough to power more than 2,500 homes.”
